Darius didn't have to wonder why he sounded that way. He'd seen the man after the incident, talked to him, and had hoped that the two could reconcile. Now, he wasn't sure that they could. At least not yet, and possibly not ever, if what he had done was unforgivable. But there was a lot, in Darius' opinion, that could be forgiven.

Darius didn't want to hurt the man any more than his former friend seemed to be doing by simply being here (and attacking him at every turn). "I'm sorry, truly." He meant it too. No one should have to be put into a situation where they had to harm someone they loved.
